Late July 2005, got into the back of my parent's Lincoln.
Something went wrong, so we got a late start. But we're in the car by about 8. Ate some Applejacks, got a hash brown and orange
juice from McDonalds, and we're on the road.
After the drive (and traffic) we get into the parking
lot. Shutting the doors, we walk into the entrance, but walk to the side. Since my dad works for a company, they have certain
days each year where workers of that company get in for free. Yep, me and my family got in for free.
Alright, so finally we're in the park, but we don't know what we should do first. My dad and mom
are hungry, but me and my older sis want to ride a coaster. Only roller coaster with loops I've ever done before was Superman,
which only had one helix and one (but big loop) and while I enjoyed it, I was still nervous of the crazy looping rides. My
sister didn't take that into consideration.
Her first destination, since it was close was
Batman and Robin, the Chiller. And that's one of the craziest rides there. It's got a bunch of loops, helixes, the works, but
the scariest thing about it I found out minutes before I boarded. The line was short, and when I got close, I saw people getting
into the cart. The announcer was saying stuff like "Keep hands inside, etc." and then did a weird "3,2,1!" As soon as he finished
saying the word one, the coaster zoomed off from 0 to 75 mph (that's a fact) in 3 seconds. If you don't believe me check it
out yourself.
Anyway, so seeing that made my hands shake. I've always
been the big baby about these things, so the fact I'm starting on the scariest one in the park at the time doesn't help. But
I've waited for about a half an hour (that's actually good. It would have been shorter if the Batman side was working, but
only Robin was) and I'm not wiping out. I pull the bar over my waist, buckle the strap, and brace for lift off. It happens,
and we're off.
I don't know about you, but screaming doesn't come
normally for me on rides. I actually have to make myself scream just so I don't become nauseous. But doing that caused my
throat at the end to be sore as ever. My eyes were closed at some points, so I didn't see everything, but I remember seeing
the stands, people walking, and tracks from the coaster. The coaster went up an incline, and slowed down, where I realized
now I'm going backward! And as soon as I figured that out, I just couldn't help but say "Oh... shit...". It was a short ride
though, about 30 seconds. I got off, and actually said, "it wasn't that bad." Now looking at it, it wasn't that bad, but it's
not a ride I'd want to go again right away.
We disembark, walk down the stairs to level ground.
We find our parents... still haven't eaten, so we follow them to the picnic grove where my dad's company offers free food.
Too bad the hot do gs were cold, but hey, my throat was killing me, and that Cola felt pretty good.
After filling our stomachs, we leave for a new
attraction, and what else but none other than my favorite, as well as other's favorite, Nitro. It's my favorite ride because to me, its enjoyable.
It's not a crazy shake your head type of ride, but instead a fast paced ride. I like speeding into the air, but it's shaking
around I don't like. My dad's never been a big coaster fanatic, but we pushed him into doing it, and if that wasn't enough,
my sister convinced my mom and dad to sit with me and her in the front row. And man, was it worth it.
The coaster goes up a long track, and then, just goes
straight down. We tried to see ahead of us before we went down, but it's impossible. All you see is straight down, and that's
all your going to do. At speeds of 85, you're zooming like Sonic the Hedgehog across the large area. With no loops though,
this is aimed for fast pace hungers, the one I crave. Being in the first cart is 100% worth it, for the ride is so fast, you
feel water dripping from your eyes, your mouth, if open (I was laughing and going YEAH! during this ride, maybe because I
did it last year) is dry, and your hair is pushed back. But its one of the best rides Six Flags has to offer.
While in the Looney Toons SeaPort area of the
park, we try Skull Mountain Roller Coaster. This is really nothing at all. The scenery is nice though, where the line is,
but funny thing is, there is no line to this coaster really, and it makes sense. The coasters short, and just not exciting
really. Only cool thing its in pitch black, which still has it's cons. The rides basic, just goes up a hill, then goes whirls
around, but no loops or anything. It maybe cool that it's in the dark so you don't know what to expect, but it makes
you nervous your going to hit a bar or something. I kept my hands inside the cart. It would be cool (since it's skull themed)
to have glowing bones, or skulls in the scenery, but no. After a short ride, your off and really wondering if it was worth
it.
We're walking around, wondering what to do next. Now,
I've always been a big water ride lover, and I think maybe my mom is too. We try out the, I can't seem to find the name, of
it, but its the Log ride in the Looney Toons Seaport Area. Anyway, the lines not long, but there's not much to this ride.
It's a little fun, but nothing to exciting, except for one medium sized drop. If the lines not long again for this one, give
it a shot.
OK, so we did most of everything we could in
the eastern side of the park (at least according to the map) so we decided to wait cable cars (it's a nice thing to do so
you can overlook most of the park) to transport us to the western side, and man is it really the wild west. Named the
Frontier Adventures, its home to a few exciting things you got to do w hen you get to Six Flags. We ignored the small runaway train ride, and
instead went right for Medusa. This ride
is claimed to be very smooth compared to the other rides, and since its my mom and sis's close to favorite, we tried it. It's
actually quite the good ride, and worth the weight. It's got a few loops and zing sags, and all that jazz, but it's not too
quick, and not to long. Personally, I think of it as the in between ride of the park. It's not as crazy as the chiller, but it's a little bit more than
Nitro. But after doing Medusa, it's now one of my favorite rides.
While still in the wild west, we decided to get some
Dip n Dots Ice cream, and that always feels good on your throat. Since we took a brake, I looked around in Super Teepee, a
big western styled gift shop. Now I think it's a little much to purchase things from a gift store if you're going to do rides.
At anything, buy the merchandise at the end of the day so you don't have to worry about losing it. Anyway, my sister noticed
these tablets with names inscribed on them, and the meaning of them. I looked up Josh and Joshua, and man they are pretty
accurate! I looked up Mike and Michael... way off the target there. Sorry dudes, those were the only ones I could find for
friend-wise.
After a relaxation moment, we got on line for
the Log Flume, the more bigger water ride at
Six Flags. But if the wait is really long, it's not that bad if you miss the ride. But we waited, and after about 40 minutes,
we got on. The structure of the logs the same as the Seaport one, but it has more jumps and is a tad bit faster. At the very
end, is a big fall, that since I w as in the front of the log, I got hit with water, and I'll just say I was wearing a white shirt...
seriously I was, but you didn't see anything... but does it really matter since I'm a guy? Hm... Also, right after the end
are too hoses that will spray water at the riders, which is controlled by other people who are in Six flags. The water is
controlled by the fence that overlooks the ride, put 25 cents in the machine, and get ready to splash the people. But remember,
its one shot per quarter.
We decided to grab some dinner at the Best of the West.
where I got what else but my favorite, Chicken Fingers! Make sure you take the outdoor tables, for they overlook a very nice
lake, and you might see, like I did, a school of hungry fish, baby turtles, and their mother, a huge turtle! I fed them some
of my food, they seemed to like it.
Well, my stomachs a little full, so we decided to take
a break from the coasters and do some games. Most of the games are pretty simple and easy to win a prize, especially if only
your family is doing it, so you know one of them will win. I won a very large snake plush (VERY SOFT) at a quick draw. You
had to press the gun at the right time, and keep aim still as you filled up a small hole with the water from your gun. But,
I wanted to be nice, and try to win something for my girl, so I also did another game where moving water sprayed down, and
you had to move an empty jug to capture it, moving left and right. Knowing she has a big Yankee family, (GO YANKEES) I got
her one. And I think she'll definitely like it. It's cute and Yankee styled, what more do you need? But my sister hadn't had
a shot at a game, so she tried a test your nerves game where you had to keep a loop from touching a moving spiral. If you
made it all the way to the bottom, you won, but right before she could, the buzzer beeped indicating a touch. So she tried
the jug game again (after being beaten by mwah) but this time beat the master and got a Yankee Basketball. Well, that's enough
of games. The games you have to pay to play, ands remember, your at Six flags for the rides, not the games.
Well, we try to do the Go Karts, but that ends
up needing a special ticket you have to pay for. I've got a good Go Kart place about 10 minutes away, so no thanks. We've
already done Dare Devil Drop... or Dive, can't remember. It's about a 150 drop from a bungee. I've done it twice, it's really
cool, feel like your flying. But you have to pay, and set up a time, so we just decided to skip it this time. I've never done The Great American
Scream Machine, but it turns out my family has before. They says it shakes your head around a lot, and they'd rather not do
it again, so we instead go for some flying lessons...
We head for Superman Ultimate Flight which I did last summer... but man last
summer was that line HUGE! Compared to this year, the line was great, and we got in about a half an hour. It's cool how they
make you feel like your flying by making you suspended in air at an angle. The rides not crazy, just a loop, and a few zags,
but its enjoyable. The one loop though is huge, and you instead start from the top and loop down. The only thing that scares
me a bit on the ride is how close the ground looks at times. Makes ya nervous.
At the end of the ride, you stay in your flying position until the car in front of you has got for lift off, which can be
a bit uncomfortable. But other than that, it's a good ride.
And that was it, the sun was setting, and we'd had
our fill for the day. I've never done the Safari Ride before, and I want too, but I have done Hurricane Harbor, and that wasn't
too fun. The lines are way to long, and I prefer my Long Island Splish-Splash better.
Well, that's a wrap. I hope you enjoyed
my review for Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, and I hope it gives you a lookout for rides to do and such to see!
